Magnetic Mattress Pads: What You Should Look For
So first things first: what do magnetic mattress pads claim to do? Well, first we
need to know a little something about what magnetic therapy claims to do, and that
is alleviate chronic pain by improving circulation and increasing oxygen to the blood,
which in turn, is shown to alleviate chronic pain faster because you are in theory
providing more nutrients to the target areas. Other magnet therapy proponents say
that magnets reduce oxidation which keeps you feeling younger while others claim
it balances the acid-
Of course, none of this has been proven conclusively and the magnet theory debate continues. But if you believe (as many do) that magnets do, for whatever reason, help alleviate chronic pain either because of your own personal experience or a testimonial from someone you trust, then a magnetic mattress pad is a great place to start if you are willing to spend a few bucks.
Yes, a magnetic mattress pad is one of the more expensive magnet therapy purchases you can make, but it is also one of the most effective in terms of all body, holistic healing, as well as never having to be burdened by the magnets (as would be the case with a magnetic belt or ankle strap etc.). Also, you will be using the "power" of the magnets all night, which means that you will get at least 8 hours of magnet therapy per day, and anyone who believes in magnet therapy will tell you that the longer the magnets are working on the body, the more likely you will receive the therapeutic benefits of the magnets.
So what are these magnets anyway?
A magnetic product such as a mattress pad needs to have two things going for it to ensure that you are getting proper and real magnetic therapy relief. For one thing, there needs to be plenty of magnets in the mattress pad and they should be spaced out evenly. In this way, the entire pad is providing a magnetic field that will work on the body regardless of how you sleep or which side of the mattress you use. Second, the gauss rating of each individual magnet is important. A good gauss rating is going to be well over a thousand, however be careful that a manufacturer isn't talking about all the magnets combined instead of each individual magnet. You want each individual magnet to have as strong a gauss as possible, especially since the magnets will have to penetrate the pad and then penetrate your aching body.
Beyond this, it is all about the type of comfort you want from the mattress pad itself.
Many manufacturers will use memory foam, as it is easy to use, is very comfortable
and it's easy for manufacturers to insert magnets into it evenly. There are also
many high-
How Important Is the Strength of the Magnet?
I really cannot stress how important it is to get the strongest magnets available. Make sure you trust the magnet therapy vendor and make sure they are willing to tell you how many magnets there are in the mattress pad, and what the gauss (strength of the magnet) of each individual magnet is. In this way, you will be sure that you are receiving the strongest magnetic field possible for your chronic pain.
You may find mattress pad vendors who have different pads depending on how you sleep
at night. If you sleep on your side, you will want stronger magnets in the pad because
you are not getting enough surface exposure to justify a lower gauss rating mattress
pad. If you suffer from fibromyalgia, high blood pressure, diabetes and aches and
pains you will also want to go with the stronger gauss magnetic mattress pads. However,
if you are going for the holistic, stay-
