Magnetic Therapy and Back Pain

Relief - Is There A Connection?

Back Pain and Magnet Therapy Back Pain Solutions: People suffer from back pain.  It's a simple fact.  It's such an obvious statement that it simply goes with the territory of being human; people accept it in the way they accept wrinkles in their sixties or sore joints in their forties.  But does a person have to suffer from back pain?

It's a good question and some think that magnet therapy back products might be the answer - at least for milder forms of back pain.  The problem is that many back pain solutions are incredibly expensive and so a magnet therapy back pain solution suddenly may not sound like such a bad idea, but is it even worth one hard earned dollar?

The bottom line is that most back pain therapy solutions are expensive.  Chiropractors cost an arm and a leg and never seem to fix the problem.  Sometimes it feels like they just fix your pain enough to keep you walking until your next inevitable visit.  Pain killers on the other hand, obviously do little more then delay or hide the pain, and can be even more expensive then chiropractors.  And then there is back surgery, which is extremely expensive and is only performed if you have very serious back problems.

So what's left?

Some people, due to the solutions above providing less than desirable results, have turned to holistic remedies.  One popular remedy in particular is magnet therapy back pain solutions.  So how might magnet therapy back products work to solve your pained back?

Here Are The Theories As To Why Magnet Therapy Back Products May Help To Alleviate Chronic Pain:

One prevailing theory is that because there is iron in the blood, the iron attracts the magnetic field increasing blood flow.  However this is simply inaccurate, because blood iron is not floating around on its own, but rather attached to hemoglobin molecules.  These hemoglobin molecules are actually repelled by magnets.

A more plausible theory however, is that  magnetic fields may alter calcium channels in the muscle cells, and this would cause arteries to dilate.  This would decrease swelling which is important for healing as well as in alleviating pain in the target area.  This is a possible reason some proponents believe that magnet therapy back pain solutions are the best bang for your buck.

But don't start spending your money just yet.  It's important to remember that some magnet therapy back products have the strength of a refrigerator magnet, which is seen by the magnetic therapy community as having no therapeutic benefits at all.  You will want to make sure you are getting a strong magnet, and that you are placing it as close to the skin as possible since magnets lose their strength quickly within only short distances from the target area.

Also, the placement of the magnets inside the magnet therapy back products is important, so you want to make sure the manufacturer is aware of this.

This would include a few different types of magnet therapy back products explained below:

Magnetic Therapy Mattress Pads: Many magnet mattress pads are made with memory foam.  This is because memory foam is popular for people who already suffer from back pain, and it is easy to hide the magnets in the memory foam without causing discomfort for the user.  Magnetic travel pads are also available and should fold up nicely for trips.  The travel pads can be placed on hotel beds and are seen as a good solution to back pain stresses caused from traveling.  Considering you spend a third of your life sleeping this is a good way to reap the benefits of magnetic therapy without doing anything undesirable throughout the day.

Magnet Therapy Chairs: Magnetic Therapy Chairs should be designed with the same care as a good back support chair like a 24/7 chair.  They should also have strong magnets implanted in the chair and positioned properly for the strongest magnetic field.  Magnet therapy back solutions like this are great because most people spend the majority of their day in an office chair.

Magnet Therapy Car Seats: Car seats with magnets are certainly more rare then magnetic mattress pads and magnetic chairs, however they do exist.  This type of magnet therapy back solution is ideal for people who spend a great deal of time in their cars.  This would include truck drivers and commuters on the go.

Magnet Therapy Back Support Belts: These back support belts are essentially no different then regular back support belts, save the fact that they have magnets in them.  This is a good way to get an all day magnet fix, however if you are not already using a back support belt, you may find it to be a bit cumbersome.

The bottom line behind all the magnet therapy back products mentioned above, is that they are designed to send a magnetic field to the target area, in this case the back.  There are a few things that may happen when a magnetic field penetrates the back as mentioned above, however I must point out that magnet therapy back solutions are seen as holistic at best and are not said to "cure" or "heal" any type of chronic pain.  We may see a shift in this when further studies are provided in the medical field, but only time will let use know the precise benefits magnetic therapy may have for our bodies.

Magnet Therapy Back Pain Solutions:

Remember that there is probably no cure-all for back pain, and serious back pain may be better treated with surgery, or a good chiropractor.  But if you are looking for that extra edge, you may consider magnet therapy back products, some of which were mentioned above.  Just remember there is a lot of research still to be completed regarding magnetic therapy and there are a lot of magnet therapy companies that would love to separate you from your cash a lot more than they want to separate you from your back pain.
